About This Course

A-Level Mathematics builds on the algebra, geometry and statistics you met at GCSE and takes them much further. You’ll learn to model real situations, prove results rigorously and solve problems you’ve never seen before.

It’s one of the most respected qualifications you can take, and it supports a huge range of degrees and careers, from engineering and computing to economics, medicine and finance.

Bridging Projects

Get Ahead Before September

Before you start Year 12, you’ll complete a short Mathematics bridging project over the summer to get a head start, alongside our Sixth Form expectations and dress code.

What You’ll Study

Pure Mathematics

Algebra, functions, trigonometry, sequences and proof: the core of the course.

Calculus

Differentiation and integration, and how to use them to model change, optimise and find areas.

Statistics

Data, probability and hypothesis testing, including the normal and binomial distributions.

Mechanics

Forces, motion and Newton’s laws applied to real-world problems.

Proof & Reasoning

Building logical arguments, testing conjectures and communicating solutions clearly.

Mathematical Modelling

Turning messy real-world situations into mathematics, then interpreting the results.

Course content and assessment can vary by exam board and year. Contact the Sixth Form team for the current specification.
